Ashtanga

Ashtanga Yoga is a highly structured vinyasa-style class. There are five Ashtanga asana series and each student must master every pose of the first series before moving onto the second series. The ultimate purpose of the Ashtanga practice is purification of the body and mind. By moving so quickly and powerfully, you will get a lot of tapas and everything extra, physical and mental, will have to get out the way.

This practice has a strong sense of purpose and you are forced to focus and grow. Ashtanga comes with all the benefits of a regular yoga practice–strength, flexibility, stress management, and inner peace. Because the series is so demanding and in traditional practice you’re expected to practice most days you will get really strong really fast. There is no part of the body that doesn’t work hard in this practice.

Ashtanga yoga is fit for you if you want a challenge and you love structure. The practice is identical from day to day, and it takes most people years to move up a level. If you have sensitive muscles or joints, this may not be the practice for you. There is a strong emphasis on “getting” each pose, even if your body is not necessarily ready to move there in a graceful way.

Vinyasa

In Vinyasa you move from one pose directly into the next. There’s a flow in it, though the specific poses and the pace of the flow vary from one instructor to the next. Vinyasa, on the other hand, usually moves from one pose to the next at the teacher’s discretion. This transition coordinates with your breathing. It’s done specifically as you exhale or inhale, and it gives you the feeling that your breath is moving your body. A fast-paced Vinyasa session can be physically challenging.

Vinyasa yoga improves energy levels while promoting relaxation and lowering stress levels. It also offers several other benefits, including: endurance and strength training, stability and balance, cardio work out, reduce stress and anxiety. Vinyasa yoga may be a better match if you are familiar with yoga poses and how to do them, have a good level of fitness, want to get a cardio and strength training workout during your yoga session, like to feel challenged during your yoga session

Aerial Yoga

Aerial yoga is a type of yoga which uses a hammock or yoga swing to allow students to perform postures that they may not ordinarily be able to attempt on the yoga mat.

It is often also referred to as Anti-Gravity yoga. It combines traditional yoga with moves inspired by pilates, dance and acrobatics.

Aerial yoga is suitable for anyone and everyone. With a swath of soft fabric bolstering your body and keeping you off the ground, whether you’re totally inexperienced, a beginner or advanced yogi, aerial yoga is an effective way to challenge and improve your strength and flexibility.

Aqua Yoga

Aqua yoga is low impact and helps you develop strength, static balance, and increase in range of motion. The water environment allows a release from gravity which in return allows optimum stretching while simultaneously relieving body tension. Aqua yoga has been used greatly in healing stiffness and muscle pain post-surgery and also in relieving pain as well as anxiety and stress.

The benefits of aqua yoga seem to be endless, but overall there’s no doubt that the simple addition of water makes the practice much easier and beneficial to those struggling with regular yoga.
